Reduce your chemical footprint with palaMOUNTAINS Revive

On-farm study to compare palaMOUNTAINS® Revive with Anthelmintic drench on lamb performance from twin bearing ewes.

Trial Background:
Randomly selected twin bearing ewes were allocated into two mobs and EID tagged as Control and Treatment groups. All ewes were vaccinated with 5 in 1 and drenched with an anthelmintic drench, with the Treatment ewes given 30 mls of Revive with added iodine. The ewes were then allocated separate paddocks for lambing.

At docking all lambs were given EID tags to identify them as Control or Treatment lambs.

Drenching at docking: Treatment lambs received 10 mls of Revive plus B12.

Six weeks after docking: Control lambs received the correct dose of anthelmintic drench; Treatment lambs received 15 mls and the ewes received 30 mls of Revive with B12 added.

At weaning (75 days after docking): All lambs were weighed, shorn and drenched. Control lambs received an anthelmintic drench and Treatment lambs received Revive with B12. Lambs were drafted into two groups – male and female – with Control and Treatment groups run together.

KILL DRAFT COMPARISON:

19 days after weaning, male lambs were weighed and drafted to 34kg & above.

111

of Anthelmintic Control lambs went to slaughter

119

of Revive Treatment lambs went to slaughter

There were 6.9% more palaMOUNTAINS Revive Treatment lambs ready for slaughter at the first draft.

TOTAL CARCASS WEIGHT COMPARISON:

1896.8 kg

Total kill weight of Anthelmintic Control lambs

2010.8 kg

Total kill weight of Revive Treatment lambs

Resulting in an extra 6% of carcass weight from the Treatment group at the first draft.

WEIGHT COMPARISON BETWEEN CONTROL AND TREATMENT LAMBS:

DAG COMPARISON:

A visual difference in dags between the treatment and control group was seen at shearing. Control lambs had more wet dags then the Revive treatment lambs which presented with very minimal dry dags.

NOTE: Regular faecal egg counts are essential, if a considerable worm burden is identified, anthelmintic treatment is recommended.

SUMMARY:

On this farm the overall weight difference between the two groups is insignificant. The Treatment lambs have performed equally as well as the control lambs and have been chemical free since birth.
